The lanes within Germany’s Nurburgring track are layered with history. Since 1920, the world’s fastest vehicles have tested their abilities here, pulling lap times that have amazed. Of course, the list of over-achievers includes models from Lamborghini, Porsche, and Ferrari, as well as standouts from NextEV, Radical, and Gumpert. But this year’s list has a new entrant, and it just beat the lap time record for FWD vehicles. That’s right: Honda’s 2017 Civic Type R is Nurburgring’s Next Top Model, posting a time of 7:43:80—beating the 2015 Type R’s record by nearly 7 seconds is no small feat—and positioning itself as the track’s 65th-fastest car ever. Check out the onboard footage below to see each dip and turn the Civic Type R took to get into the record book.

About America’s First Ever Civic Type R

We know it’s got the speed to handle the Nurburgring, but what else can you expect from the 2017 Civic Type R when it lands at one of our Central Florida Honda Dealers locations?

First, there’s the engine: A Type R-exclusive 2.0L i-VTEC® Turbo that produces a heart-stopping 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s officially the post powerful engine to sit underneath the hood of a Honda. To top it off, the Type R also features a Limited Slip Differential and sporty Adaptive Damper System to improve stability on tight turns.

Inside the Type R, you’ll discover Speed Racer-like style. Lightweight bucket seats are comfortable yet firm, allowing you to enjoy both daily commutes and trips around the track. One of three customized drive modes can be activated from your driver’s seat; +R Driving Mode is the most advanced and automatically changes the suspension, throttle, and steering settings for optimal performance. As an added perk, you can also monitor G-forces, track times, and “boost pressure” on the digital gauge cluster.

2017 Honda Civic Type R Interior

Undoubtedly as stylish outside as it is in the cabin, the 2017 Civic Type R features standard 20-inch black alloy wheels, 4-piston Brembo brake calipers, and a red “Honda” emblem. A front mesh grille is sectioned in two, while vortex generators, a winged spoiler, and tri-exhaust outlets round out the rear.
