Each year, Kelly Blue Book announces the winners of their Best Buys Award. In 2016, the car that took home the trophy was—drumroll, please—the Honda Civic. A year and some loose change later, the 2017 Civic unprecedentedly became a repeat champion. Combining its affordable sticker price and superior MPG ratings with countless standard features and ingenious packaging, the brand-new Civic is seemingly just too fun of a ride to leave out of the mix.

The 2017 Honda Civic is KBB's Best Buy Award Winner Again

What, specifically, landed the 2017 Civic atop KBB’s leaderboard? Lots, in fact.

Acknowledged by Kelly Blue Book for its “unsurpassed all-around value,” the 2017 Honda Civic, in both sedan and coupe form, is a dominating force in this year’s marketplace for compact and small cars. Its compact dashboard is tight and detailed while never feeling minuscule or underdeveloped, and the central stack utilizes space cleverly. Cabin comfort is well-rounded from front to back. An excellent duo of drivetrains—a 1.5L turbo or the base 2.0L 4-cylinder—pair well with the acclaimed CVT. The car’s agile suspension system and lightweight ACE structure enable the Civic to ride the turns and traverse potholes with ease. Despite its healthy offering of features, Honda’s Civic is priced well below most of its rivals, making it one of the best values in the industry.

Choosing it as the overall winner of the 2017 Best Buy Award was KBB’s easiest decision yet. Although its two consecutive wins are phenomenal, a three-peat would place the Civic in a world inhabited by only legends, royalty, and demigods. So here’s hoping the 2018 Civic can venture across the border and into such unchartered territory.

2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick

The ’17 Civic was also branded as a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, with its only negative grade stemming from its headlights—a “quick” fix for that is to invest in the Civic Touring, which comes with automatic LED headlights. Its crashworthiness scores are otherwise superior thanks to active and passive safety equipment that includes:

  • Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control
  • Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Guidelines
  • TPMS
  • LaneWatch (standard on all but the base Civic LX)
  • Fog lights (standard on the EX-T, EX-L, and Touring)
  • Side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals (standard on Touring)
  • Collision Mitigation Braking (standard on Touring)
  • Road Departure Mitigation (standard on Touring)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (standard on Touring)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (standard on Touring)
